Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat noted on Wednesday the Syrian rebels' breakthrough in taking over the strategic Minnigh airport in Aleppo, saying that changes on the ground are beginning to take place in the conflict, reported Egypt's Asharq al-Awsat news agency.

He told the agency: “I advise Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah to withdraw from Syria because the countdown for the demise of the regime has begun.”

President Michel Suleiman has said that the army-people-resistance formula can no longer be used for the new cabinet's policy statement over Hizbullah's involvement in the war in Syria, al-Liwaa newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The daily quoted Suleiman as telling a delegation from the Beirut National Gathering that the resistance took a unilateral decision to fight in Syria without consulting with the army and the people.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat condemned on Friday the Baabda rocket attack, wondering if it was a crime for President Michel Suleiman to defend the constitution and Lebanon's “democracy and diversity despite their flaws.”

He asked in a statement: “Is it a crime for the president to pinpoint the difficulties facing the army, most notably the contradiction of the presence of legitimate and illegitimate weapons in Lebanon?”

Speaker Nabih Berri urged former Prime Minister and the head of Mustaqbal movement Saad Hariri to return to Lebanon, pointing out that he is ready to reconsider Hariri's reappointment as a premier.

“Hariri must return to Lebanon to facilitate the resumption of the dialogue so that we cooperate to face the current challenges,” Berri said in comments published in local newspapers on Monday.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat condemned on Thursday the assassination of pro-government Syrian journalist Mohammed Darrar Jammo, calling on the concerned agencies to uncover the criminals and bring them to justice.

He said in a statement: “Given the increase in crimes and security incidents, such as murders and abductions, it is time for complete coordination between all Lebanese security agencies in order to confront the repercussions of the Syrian crisis.”

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat stressed on Monday the need to form a new government in Lebanon in order to end the suffering of the people who are laboring under economic and social problems.

He said in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa website: “Veto power in government and excluding parties from cabinet have proved their failures in the past.”
