The United Arab Emirates has recalled its ambassador from Tunisia to protest calls by the Tunisian president for the liberation of Egypt's deposed head of state, reports said Saturday.

France, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan have agreed to strengthen the Syrian opposition in its battle against Bashar Assad's regime, the French presidency said Friday.

After a meeting in Paris, French President Francois Hollande and foreign ministers from the three countries "agreed on the need to strengthen international support for the democratic opposition to allow it to face attacks by the regime," the Elysee said in a statement.

18 UAE Islamist Prisoners on Hunger Strike

Eighteen out of 69 UAE Islamists serving jail terms for plotting to overthrow the government are on hunger strike in protest at alleged maltreatment, Amnesty International said on Tuesday.

Six of the prisoners began their hunger strike on July 31, and three of them collapsed between August 21 and August 28, the rights group said.

Report: Kuwait to Deport 9 Egyptian pro-Morsi Protesters

Kuwait is to deport nine Egyptian Islamists for participating in protests outside their embassy in the Gulf emirate which bans foreigners from demonstrating, a newspaper said on Monday.

Rocket Strikes UAE Mission in Libya

Unknown attackers fired a rocket at the UAE embassy in Tripoli Thursday causing little damage and no casualties, Libya's interior ministry said, in the latest assault targeting foreign missions in the country.

"An RPG (rocket-propelled grenade) was fired on the building which sustained minor damage," said ministry spokesman Rami Said, adding that no one was hurt in the incident.
