A recent outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus is "under control" but has not yet been fully eradicated, a Ugandan health official said Monday.

Two suspicious cases were admitted to a hospital close to the scene of the outbreak over the weekend, bringing to nine the total number of people currently in isolation, the official said.

At least five Ugandan servicemen survived the crash of two army helicopters in Kenya en route to war-torn Somalia with two confirmed dead, officials said Tuesday.

"The good news is that we have managed to find five survivors and they have just been airlifted to safety," said Simon Gitau, a senior warden with the Kenya Wildlife Service, which is involved in the rescue operation.

Emergency teams on Monday searched for two Ugandan army helicopters feared to have crashed in thick forest in Kenya while flying to Somalia to support forces fighting insurgents there, officials said.

Seven Ugandan servicemen aboard a third helicopter which was part of the same mission were rescued, Kenyan army spokesman Bogita Ongeri said.

Kampala residents have been urged to avoid contact after the deadly Ebola virus hit the city but security guard Joseph Karuba's job is to frisk people and he doesn't have gloves.

"The thing has come back -- it came first time and we beat it, then it came again and we beat it and now it is back," he said, waiting for shoppers outside one of the teeming capital's malls.

An outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus that erupted in western Uganda at the start of July has killed 14 people, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Saturday.

The latest outbreak was in the western Kibaale district, around 200 kilometers (125 miles) west of the Ugandan capital Kampala, and around 50 kilometers from the border with Democratic Republic of Congo,

"The text messages would come twice a day and were saying things like 'Dear friend, please take care of yourself' and when you got them you knew it was time to take your medicine," Nayiga, 28, told Agence France Presse.

Renegade soldiers of the Democratic Republic of Congo on Friday took a Ugandan border post at the town of Bunagana, after fighting regular Congolese armed forces, police and the mutineers said.

"We took Bunagana around 6:00 am (0400 GMT)," lieutenant colonel Vianney Kazarama, spokesman for the mutinous armed force known as M23, told AFP.

Uganda has arrested a Belgian citizen of Rwandan origin wanted by a court in his adopted homeland for involvement in the 1994 genocide, police said Friday.

Thaddee Kwitonda, 51, was detained in Kampala on Thursday after police tracked his movements for several months, police spokesman Asuman Mugenyi told AFP.

A mudslide buried at least 15 houses Monday when it tore through two hamlets in eastern Uganda following heavy rains, the Red Cross said.

"We know that at least 15 houses have been buried but we do not know how many people were inside them," Red Cross spokeswoman Catherine Ntabadde said.
