Teacher Arrested for Raping Student

A teacher in Tyre has been arrested for raping one of his students, reported Voice of Lebanon radio on Tuesday.

The teacher, a male in his mid-fifties, is accused of raping the 12-year old boy at a private school in the southern city.

Family Survives Partial Collapse of Their Tyre Home

A family of six narrowly escaped with their lives on Wednesday after a part of their house collapsed in the town of al-Hallousiyeh in the southern city of Tyre, reported the National News Agency.

It said that the head of the family, Qassem Mounis, was awaken at 4:00 a.m. Wednesday by the sound that he likened to an explosion to discover that parts of the house’s main room had crumbled.

More Food Warehouses, Shops Raided as Questioning of al-Natour Brothers Adjourned

More food product shops and warehouses were raided on Tuesday as Beirut’s Examining Magistrate adjourned the questioning of Samih and Suleiman al-Natour.

The Tyre Municipality health commission seized a large quantity of spoiled food during an inspection of shops in the city, the National News Agency reported.

A small quake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale jolted cities in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, without causing any injuries or damage, the Bhannes Center for Seismic and Scientific Research announced.

Residents of the southern city of Tyre and its suburbs felt the earthquake at around 10:47 am, the National News Agency said.

A group of Lebanese and Palestinians have set on fire a vehicle and a health clinic of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East – UNRWA at a camp in the southern Tyre district.

The National News Agency said the attack took place at al-Shabriha camp on Tuesday morning to protest the death of a Lebanese patient married to a Palestinian man after UNRWA rejected to give her a hospital transfer permit three days ago.

Tyre Protestors Shout Anti-Bassil Slogans Over Severe Power Rationing

Several residents of Tyre blocked on Sunday the road at the southern coastal city’s entrance to protest electricity cuts but the army later reopened it, the National News Agency reported.

NNA said the residents held a sit-in outside the Electricite du Liban building at the city’s northern entrance and hoisted banners against “the policy of rationing and corruption at the energy ministry.”

Hizbullah Prevents Forensics Experts from Inspecting Corpses Retrieved from Syria as Party Denies

Two corpses allegedly belonging to Hizbullah members were reportedly entered to Lebanon from Syria on Friday, said al-Mustaqbal daily on Saturday.

The corpses were transferred to a hospital in the southern city of Tyre where forensics experts sought to inspect them, but they were later prevented by Hizbullah, whose members cordoned off the building before entering it, sources from the city told the daily.

Bomb Causes Extensive Damage to Sarafand Liquor Store

An explosion ripped through a liquor store in Sarafand in the South overnight, causing $30,000-worth of damages, the shop’s owner said Thursday.

Ahmed Ali Hamdan told Voice of Lebanon radio station (93.3) that the bomb that targeted his shop around 2:30 am weighed 400-500 grams of TNT.
