One Dead, 18 Hurt in Southeast Turkey Car Explosion

A car exploded on Sunday in a town in Turkey's Kurdish-majority southeast, killing an 11-year-old child and wounding 18 others, in an attack blamed on Kurdish rebels, officials and security sources said.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan slammed the "heinous attack" which caused a civilian death as it happened close to a wedding gathering, reported the Anatolia news agency.

Police Tear Gas Hunger Strike Protesters in Istanbul

Turkish police fired tear gas and water cannon at protesters in Istanbul staging a demonstration in support of a widespread hunger strike by Kurdish prisoners.

Around 400 protesters were gathered outside the Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) building, chanting "Evacuate prisons" and "Freedom to inmates", when police fired the tear gas and water cannon without warning.

Weapons Found in Biscuit Boxes in Yemen

A cargo of weapons originating in Turkey was seized by Yemeni authorities on Saturday in the southern port of Aden, the defense ministry Internet website26sep.net reported.

Citing security sources, the report said the arms had been found in boxes used for biscuits, in a container dispatched from Turkey.

Turkey Warns Will Shun Companies Involved in Cyprus Oil, Gas Drilling

Turkey warned Saturday it would shun international companies involved in oil and gas drilling off the shores of the divided island of Cyprus.

"As it was repeated several times ... the companies which will cooperate with the Greek Cypriot Administration will be excluded from new energy projects in Turkey in the future," the foreign ministry said in a written statement.

Louvre Denies Turkish Tiles 'Stolen' from Historic Mosque

The Louvre museum in Paris on Friday said there had been no official demand from Ankara to return tiles that a Turkish daily claims were stolen from a historic mosque, adding they had been acquired legally.

The tiles are part of a 12-metre- (40-foot-) long mosaic put together by the museum and one of the highlights of a new wing of Islamic art which was launched at the end of October.

A car exploded outside a military barracks in a southern Turkish town near Syria Thursday, lightly injuring four people, in an attack blamed on Kurdish rebels, the Anatolia news agency reported.

The blast occurred around 5:15 pm local time in the Iskenderun district of Hatay province shortly after a military vehicle passed by, local governor Celalettin Lekesiz was quoted as telling Anatolia.

Turkey Says 'No Point' in Dialogue with Syria

Turkey is ruling out any dialogue with the Syrian regime, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Tuesday, a day after Moscow called for negotiations with Damascus as the only way to end the escalating conflict.
