Turkish PM Storms Out of Ceremony over Criticism

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan lost his temper during a ceremony Saturday, heckling a speaker who accused him of authoritarian tendencies before walking out of the room in fury.

The official ceremony, which was aired live on Turkish television, saw a visibly enraged Erdogan interrupt the head of the bar association Metin Feyzioglu, whose lengthy speech took several jabs at the government's performance.

One Killed as Syrian Jets Hit Turkish Aid Trucks

A Turkish charity said on Friday one person was killed and two hurt near the Syrian city of Aleppo when Syrian warplanes hit two trucks carrying aid on its behalf. 

Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) said that trucks carrying flour and blankets were caught in the middle of an air campaign late Thursday by the Syrian Air Force targeting rebel strongholds in the divided city.

Turkey Court Frees Three Journalists from Long Detention

A Turkish court has freed three journalists and five others accused of ties to a banned Marxist group after eight years of pre-trial custody, pending an appeal in their trial, a journalists' union said Thursday.

An Istanbul court freed the defendants under a new law passed in March reducing the detention limit for suspects on trial from 10 years to five years, the Turkish Journalists' Union told AFP.

Turkey has decided to place a firm order with U.S. aerospace giant Lockheed Martin for two F-35 stealth fighter jets, a defense source said on Wednesday.

At Least 22 Dead in Greece Migrant Sinkings

At least 22 migrants including four children drowned in the Aegean Sea on Monday after a yacht and a dinghy carrying them towards Greek shores capsized, coastguard officials said.

Eighteen people were found dead on board the 10-meter (33-foot) yacht after it was towed to shore, the coastguard said, adding that another four bodies were recovered at sea.

Turkish prosecutors have launched an investigation into a U.S.-based cleric on charges of attempting a coup after the government accused him of masterminding a vast corruption scandal, an official said Wednesday.
