Head of the pro-Syria Islamic Tawhid Movement-Command Council Sheikh Hashem Minkara was detained on Thursday over “withholding information” related to the deadly bombings that rocked the northern city of Tripoli, reported the National News Agency.

Saqr Extends Detention of Tripoli Bombing Suspects

State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr ordered on Wednesday the extension of the detention of suspects held over their connection to the twin bombings in the northern city of Tripoli on Friday, reported the National News Agency.

It said that he ordered that Sheikh Ahmed al-Gharib and Mustafa Houri's detention be extended for 24 hours over their links to the attacks.

Head of Dar al-Fatwa in Tripoli Sheikh Mohammed Imam demanded on Tuesday that a “detailed security plan” be devised for the northern city in order to protect places of worship and public places in light of the recent bombings in the city.

He rejected in a statement after a spiritual meeting at Dar al-Fatwa in Tripoli the phenomenon of “autonomous security and possession of weapons away from the authority of the state.”

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said Monday his political camp cannot join a cabinet comprising Hizbullah ministers at present, noting that he does not endorse the “hypothesis” that the Dahieh and Tripoli bombings were orchestrated by the “same hand.”

Asked in an interview on Future TV how to put an end to the series of bombings that have rocked several Lebanese regions, Geagea said: “The state must address the situation, as currently the state only comprises President Michel Suleiman and Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam, who must form a serious cabinet that should not be crippled, paralyzed or under the influence of intimidation.”
