Al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc on Monday urged the political forces to take part in a key legislative session scheduled for Wednesday, in which MPs are likely to vote for extending the legislature's term for a second time in two years.

“The bloc reiterates its stance that the priority is for the election of a president, but the deliberate obstruction of this process has necessitated resorting to an extension of the parliament's term,” the bloc said in a statement issued after its weekly meeting.

The army announced on Monday the arrest of seven suspects in the northern city of Tripoli wanted on various charges.

The army said that suspect Ahmed Ahmed Khalaf was detained for opening fire and tossing hand grenades against army positions.

A Lebanese man who hails from the northern city of Tripoli has been killed while fighting alongside jihadists in the Syrian border town of Kobane, reports said Monday.

They said Alaa al-Hosni, a resident of the Tripoli neighborhood of Bab al-Tabbaneh, died as he and other Islamic State group militants fought with fighters in Kobane, a Kurdish town.

The army carried out raids on Saturday in the north where they arrested a suspected person in Tripoli and seized a weapon depot and issued a security document to arrest Bilal Diqmaq.

The Army Command stated: “During a patrolling inspection, the army found in Tripoli's Bab al-Tabaneh – Harba street a weapon depot contains 25 rifle, machine gun BKC, two RPG shells and various ammunition, hand grenades, and military materiel.”

Hundreds of Egyptian workers have been refused entry to Libya over the past 48 hours because their visas were not valid, a spokesman at Tripoli's Miitiga airport said Saturday.

"Around 800 Egyptians were turned away. They all had non-compliant visas," the spokesman told AFP.

The army said Friday it has arrested several people suspected of attacking soldiers and seized weapons and ammunition from a depot in the northern city of Tripoli.

Al-Mustaqbal movement leader MP Saad Hariri on Thursday announced that he has donated 20 million dollars for reconstruction efforts in northern Lebanon, which has witnessed fierce battles between the army and Islamist gunmen.

“Twenty million dollars have been allocated for the areas affected by the latest clashes in the city of Tripoli -- especially Bab al-Tabbaneh -- the Bhannine region in Minieh and the rest of northern areas that witnessed military confrontations,” Hariri said in a statement.

The government allocated on Thursday 30 billion Lebanese pounds for the northern city of Tripoli, following the violent clashes that took place in the old souks and Bab al-Tabbaneh last week.

“Ministers agreed that some areas of Tripoli and Akkar are suffering from extreme poverty and negligence and that the situation needs to be addressed in a serious manner through a reconstruction plan,” Information Minister Ramzi Jreij announced after a cabinet session at the Grand Serail.

The army said on Thursday that it has arrested a Lebanese man who admitted to smuggling arms to jihadists taking position on the Lebanese-Syrian border as the military rounded up dozens in its clampdown on militants.

Abdullah Mahmoud al-Hujairi was apprehended in the area of Wadi Hmeid in the northeastern border town of Arsal, said an army communique.

Gunmen, who engaged in deadly battles with the Lebanese army in the northern coastal city of Tripoli and in Akkar over the weekend, deserted their positions and fled the scene after they realized that they will not be able to stand firm against the army, As Safir newspaper reported on Thursday.

According to the daily, gunmen linked to fugitives Shadi al-Mwalawi and Ousama Mansour in Tripoli's al-Tabbaneh neighborhood decided to leave their position after Mawlawi posted a voice record accusing Muslim scholars of “abandoning them.”
