Pakistan Adopts Chinese Rival GPS Satellite System

Pakistan is set to become the fifth Asian country to use China's domestic satellite navigation system which was launched as a rival to the U.S. global positioning system, a report said Saturday.

The Beidou, or Compass, system started providing services to civilians in the region in December and is expected to provide global coverage by 2020. It also has military applications.

Saudi Reports Attacks on Government Websites

Several government Internet sites have come under "coordinated and simultaneous" cyber attack, an information security spokesman in the oil-rich kingdom reported on Friday.

The spokesman said among them was the interior ministry website brought down for an hour on Wednesday after being targeted in a so-called denial of service attack from "hundreds of IP addresses in different countries".

Apple Marks 50 Billionth App with Big Prize

Apple on Thursday announced that the number of mini-programs downloaded from its App Store has blasted past the 50 billion milestone, and celebrated the moment with a $10,000 prize.

The California-based maker of iPads, iPhones, iPods and Macintosh computers said that it gave a $10,000 App Store gift card to an Ohio man who downloaded the 50 billionth app -- a free word game called Say the Same Thing.

Facebook and Twitter launched applications Thursday for Google glasses as developers rushed to learn more about tailoring software for the Internet-linked eyewear yet to hit the market.

Four members of the LulzSec international hacking group were sentenced to prison terms in Britain on Thursday for masterminding cyber attacks on major global institutions, including Sony Pictures and the CIA.

Ryan Cleary, 21, Jake Davis, 20, Mustafa Al-Bassam, 18, and Ryan Ackroyd, 26, saw themselves as "latter-day pirates" when they carried out the attacks on organisations which also included Rupert Murdoch's top-selling British newspaper The Sun.

Google Unveils $10-a-Month 'All Access' Music Plan

Google on Wednesday launched a subscription-based music service, allowing users of Android phones and tablets to listen to their favorite songs and artists for a monthly fee.

The streaming service, called All Access, is available in the U.S. for $9.99 per month after a 30-day free trial. It will be available in other countries later. For those who start the trial by June 30, the monthly fee is $7.99.
