Brazil football great Ronaldo, who like nearly half of his country's population is overweight, has lost 17 kilograms (38 pounds) in three months as part of a television reality show.

Over the past three months the portly ex-striker, now a member of Brazil's 2014 World Cup organizing committee, went through a series of grueling physical exercises and dietary reeducation aired every Sunday on the Medida Certa (Ideal Measurements) show.

Fellaini Given Three-Match Ban after Headbutt

Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini was given a three-match suspension on Monday after accepting a charge of violent conduct for headbutting Stoke's Ryan Shawcross.

Fellaini wasn't punished by referee Mark Halsey, who missed the incident which occurred in the 59th minute of Everton's 1-1 draw against Stoke at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday.

Zenit Fans Demand All-White, Non-Gay Team

Fans of two-time defending Russian champion Zenit St. Petersburg are calling for non-white and gay players to be excluded from the team.

Landscrona, the largest Zenit supporters club, released a manifesto Monday demanding the club field an all-white, heterosexual team. It added that "dark-skinned players are all but forced down Zenit's throat now, which only brings out a negative reaction" and said gay players were "unworthy of our great city."

The Los Angeles Lakers won consecutive games for the first time in nearly a month as Kobe Bryant scored 34 points to lead a 111-98 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday.

Metta World Peace added 19 points and a career-high 16 rebounds, and Dwight Howard had 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Lakers, who led 60-50 at halftime.

Goal-line Technology Unused in 1st Tournament

After eight games at the Club World Cup, few conclusions were reached about the effectiveness of goal-line technology.

Argentine team Tigre refused to emerge for the second half against their Brazilian hosts, later alleging that armed police had barged into their dressing room, beaten the players with batons and threatened the goalkeeper with a gun.
