Stifling sobs, Oscar Pistorius took the witness stand Monday in his murder trial and apologized to the family of the girlfriend he shot dead, describing himself as being traumatized and awakening from nightmares to the "smell of blood."

Pistorius' voice quavered so much and was so low that Judge Thokozile Masipa asked him to speak up to the packed courtroom as he described his remorse for having killed Reeva Steenkamp on February 14, 2013. He said he mistook her for an intruder when he fired four times through a locked toilet stall door in his home. Prosecutors said he shot her as she screamed in terror after they had an argument in the predawn hours of Valentine's Day.

U.S. Team among Two New Entrants Set for F1 in 2015

Ivanovic Wins 2nd Title of Year at Monterrey Open

Ana Ivanovic won an all-Serbian final at the Monterrey Open on Sunday, beating Jovana Jaksic 6-2, 6-1 for her second title of the year.

Ivanovic, the 2008 French Open champion, also won the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand, to start the year. It's the first time since 2010 she has captured multiple titles in a season.

Jeff Teague scored 25 points to lead the Atlanta Hawks to a 107-88 rout of the reeling Indiana Pacers, who were held to a club-record-low 23 points in the first half of an embarrassing performance on their home floor Sunday.

The Pacers, the NBA's best home team, have lost four of five and fell a full game behind the Miami Heat in their quest for the No. 1 playoff seed in the Eastern Conference. Paul George scored 18 points and David West had 17 on a night All-Star center Roy Hibbert did not play the final 30 minutes.

Hamilton Edges Rosberg in Bahrain Thriller

Lewis Hamilton won the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday ahead of Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg after a thrilling wheel-to-wheel duel, taking him level with the legendary Juan Manuel Fangio with a 24th career victory.

Formula One commercial chief Bernie Ecclestone said he expects to get agreement to change the sport's "unacceptable" engine rules, despite leading team Mercedes opposing any alteration.

Ferrari and Red Bull have led the charge against the sport's new fuel limits that restrict usage to 100 kilograms per car per race, with the flow never exceeding more than 100 kilograms per hour. The muted sound of the new 1.6 liter V6 turbo hybrid engines has also attracted criticism.

Pistorius to Take the Stand as Defense Presents its Case
