President Michel Aoun held phone talks Thursday with Speaker Nabih Berri amid an unprecedented row between them and skyrocketing tensions between their supporters.

The phone call was held during Prime Minister Saad Hariri's meeting with Aoun in Baabda and at the premier's request, according to MTV.

Prime Minister Saad Hariri on Tuesday arrived in Switzerland to participate in the meetings of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Hariri's office said the premier will take part on Tuesday evening in a dinner banquet that will be thrown by Klaus Schwab, the founder and executive chairman of the Forum.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat dispatched MP Wael Abu Faour to the Grand Serail on Thursday reportedly carrying an initiative to solve the differences between President Michel Aoun and Speaker Nabih Berri over the officers seniority decree.

Prime Minister Saad Hariri stressed Thursday that “the Lebanese know how to defend their land and sovereignty” and that “they do not need foreign volunteers under any label.”

“We underscore the importance of the government's dissociation resolution and the need to refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of Arab countries,” Hariri said at the beginning of a cabinet session in Baabda.

Prime Minister Saad Hariri has stressed that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani does not have the right to dictate decisions to the Lebanese, as he hailed Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

“Rouhani can't tell us what to do. Iran is trying to show its strength in the region and a part of this is the propaganda that the Iranians are practicing to show that they are in control in Syria, but where is this control?” Hariri told Saudi Arabia's Arrajol magazine, in his first interview in Paris since arriving there from Riyadh.

Prime Minister Saad Hariri announced Tuesday that he held a “long meeting” with firebrand Saudi State Minister for Gulf Affairs Thamer al-Sabhan, a day after the minister voiced fierce remarks about Hizbullah.

“A long meeting with His Excellency, the friend Thamer al-Sabhan,” Hariri said in a tweet from Saudi Arabia accompanied by a smiling selfie with the Saudi minister.

Prime Minister Saad Hariri has said that he has joined a coalition government with Hizbullah after he and the Iran-backed party “decided together to put aside” their differences and “work together on big or small things that can serve Lebanon.”

Asked about being in a government with a party accused of murdering his father, ex-PM Rafik Hariri, Hariri told Italy's La Repubblica newspaper that “this can be done in one way.”

Prime Minister Saad Hariri said on Monday that the government cannot carry on with the implementation of the wage scale without securing revenues to fund it.

“We have heavily burdened the State with the salary scale. We can't continue without revenues,” said Hariri.

Prime Minister Saad Hariri stressed Wednesday that no one in Lebanon is in favor of naturalizing Syrian refugees in the country, after U.S. President Donald Trump called for resettling the displaced Syrians “as close to their home countries as possible.”

Prime Minister Saad Hariri held talks Wednesday with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Russian presidency's summer headquarters in Sochi.
