General Security chief Abbas Ibrahim revealed that Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq's recent trip to Qatar tackled the case of Lebanese abducted in Syria, reported As Safir newspaper on Saturday.

He told the daily that the trip to Doha achieved “positive results” regarding the kidnapping of a number of Lebanese held by certain armed groups.

Qatar is stepping in temporarily to help the new Palestinian unity government pay former employees of Islamist movement Hamas' disbanded Gaza government, an official said Friday.

“The Arab investments in Lebanon haven't been lost during the last four decades, on the contrary they increased, despite all the turmoil that Lebanon passed through,” Mashnouq said during a meeting with President of the Qatari Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani and Qatari businessmen.

Qatar's prime minister on Monday urged the U.N. Security Council to impose a ceasefire in Syria and intervene to end the deadly conflict that he said threatens regional stability.

"It is incumbent on the international community, especially the Security Council, to act urgently and decisively to adopt a resolution imposing a ceasefire to ensure the security and safety of the Syrian people as well as stability in the whole region," said Sheikh Abdullah bin Naser bin Kahlifa al-Thani.

Five leading Afghan militants freed from Guantanamo Bay in exchange for a U.S. soldier have pledged to honor an agreement between the Taliban and Qatar, which is hosting them.

The men, officials in the Taliban regime driven from power by the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, were released on May 31 and flown to Qatar in exchange for U.S. army sergeant Bowe Bergdahl.

Justice Minister Ahsraf Rifi said on Saturday that the security stability in Lebanon would only be fruitful if local and foreign efforts were exerted.

In comments published in An Nahar newspaper, Rifi revealed that during a recent visit to Kuwait officials inquired him on the situation in Lebanon in order to take a decision concerning a travel ban to the country.

Qatar on Sunday said it has mediated the swap of a captured U.S. soldier for five Taliban members out of “humanitarian” concern.

"When it comes to humanitarian matters, the Emir does not hesitate," Qatari Foreign Minister Khaled al-Attiyah said.
