Tunisian President to Visit Gaza Next Month

Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki will make his first visit to Gaza on February 9, officials from the Hamas government told Agence France Presse on Sunday.

"Tunisia President Marzouki will carry out a very important visit to the Gaza Strip on February 9," Hamas official Ghazi Hammad said, without giving details of the president's itinerary, or who would be accompanying him.

Palestinians set up tents and began work on a permanent structure in a West Bank village on Friday to protest Israel's intention to confiscate land, an activist said.

"We pitched two tents and began building a new structure using concrete and stones in an area in Beit Iksa which Israel wants to take for settlement," Said Yaqine told AFP.

West Bank Teen Wounded by Israeli Fire

Israeli security forces seriously wounded a Palestinian youth during clashes near Bethlehem on Friday, Palestinian medical officials said.

The 15-year-old was hit in the face by a bullet that bounced off the ground during clashes in Aida, a West Bank refugee camp north of Bethlehem, and was taken to hospital in Beit Jala, medical officials said.

Netanyahu Vows no Razing of Settlements if Elected

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged on Friday that there would be no dismantlement of any Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank if he wins a general election next week.

Israel Dismantles Palestinian Protest Camp

Israeli police overnight dismantled a Palestinian protest camp set up on a controversial piece of land on the outskirts of Jerusalem, a police spokesman and activists said on Thursday.

"The 24 tents in the encampment were dismantled during the night by police. No incidents took place during or after the operation," police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told Agence France Presse, confirming the site was now empty.
