Israeli troops shot dead a Palestinian man near the border fence in the northern Gaza Strip on Thursday, the Gaza health ministry said.

"Ibrahim Suleiman Mansur, 26, died after he was shot by Israeli occupation forces while he was collecting gravel... east of Gaza City," ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra told Agence France Presse.

Jerusalem's planning committee moved forwards on Wednesday with plans to build a nine-story Jewish seminary in the heart of a densely-populated Palestinian neighborhood near the Old City.

Plans for the new tower block, to be built in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of annexed Arab east Jerusalem, were deposited for consultation, giving the public 60 days to submit any objections, settlement watchdog Peace Now said.

The Israeli authorities have blocked 70 patients from Gaza from entering Israel to receive medical treatment because their transfer documents were marked "State of Palestine", officials told AFP on Wednesday.

Until recently, official stationery has used the term "Palestinian territories".

A knife-wielding assailant, apparently an Arab, stabbed and wounded an ultra-Orthodox Jewish man on Sunday in Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem, police said.

The attack took place near the Old City's Damascus Gate and "the assailant was apparently an Arab man" a police spokesman said, adding that an investigation was under way.

A Palestinian militant was in critical condition after an Israeli air strike on central Gaza on Sunday that the army said targeted a "key" figure responsible for cross-border rocket fire.

The strike was the latest in a growing number of violent incidents in and around Gaza since the start of 2014, prompting an Israeli warning it will continue to strike anyone threatening its citizens.

Most Israelis fear a boycott if peace talks with the Palestinians fail but agree with criticism of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry over such a threat, a poll published Friday showed.

Israel's hardline foreign minister, Avigdor Lieberman, however, rejected concerns over an economic boycott and took to Kerry's defense.

Five Palestinians were wounded by Israeli army gunfire Friday near the border fence in the northern Gaza Strip, Palestinian medical sources said.

Ashraf al-Qudra, a spokesman for the Hamas-run health ministry in the territory, said the five men were in their early twenties.

The Hamas rulers of Gaza have withdrawn a special security force tasked with preventing rocket launches at Israel from their position near the border, a security source said on Sunday.

"The field forces that are posted near the border with Israel were withdrawn yesterday evening to protest the latest escalation and Israeli attacks against Gaza," a security source told Agence France Presse.

Israel's Iron Dome anti-missile system intercepted a rocket fired at Eilat Friday and destroyed it, police said, the second time the Red Sea resort has been targeted this month.

The rocket was destroyed by an Iron Dome battery deployed outside Eilat and there were no injuries or damage in the foiled attack, a police spokeswoman said.

Israeli soldiers shot and wounded 10 Palestinians near the West Bank town of Ramallah during a protest Friday over the killing of a teenager, Palestinian medics and security sources said.

In Gaza, meanwhile, medics said five more Palestinians were wounded by Israeli army gunfire near the border fence with Israel.
