Palestinian Driver Hits Israeli Soldiers in West Bank

A Palestinian taxi injured four Israeli soldiers in a hit-and-run incident in the West Bank on Tuesday, but it was not immediately clear if it was a deliberate attack, police told Agence France Presse.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said those injured were part of a group of six soldiers standing at the side of the road alongside their vehicle, near the settlement of Neveh Daniel, southwest of Bethlehem.

Palestinian Attempts to Stab Israeli Police over Anti-Islam Film

A Palestinian woman tried to stab an Israeli policeman on an east Jerusalem street on Sunday, apparently in protest at a US-made film which denigrates Islam, an Israeli police spokesman said.

"An Arab woman this morning tried to attack an Israeli policeman, who managed to control the situation and no one was injured," spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told Agence France Presse.

About 500 Palestinians on Saturday staged what banners proclaimed a "Festival of the followers of Mohammed" in east Jerusalem in protest against French cartoons and a U.S.-made film offensive to Islam.

"We are all faithful to Mohammed" and "Mohammed the Prophet of Islam," read the banners, brandished alongside flags of Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah movement and the rival Islamist Hamas, in the city's Issawiya neighborhood, an Agence France Presse journalist said.

Israel Fire Wounds Palestinian in West Bank

Israeli security forces wounded a 19-year-old Palestinian in the leg when they opened fire with live ammunition in the occupied West Bank on Thursday, Palestinian medics said.

He was one of a group of young men throwing stones at Israelis manning a checkpoint at Beitunia, near Ramallah, and was taken to hospital in the city, the medics said.

The Palestinian leadership will launch a campaign to upgrade their status at the United Nations this month, seeking support from at least 150 nations, an official said Thursday.

Palestinians Say Fasting Prisoner in Intensive Care

One of three long-term Palestinian hunger strikers in Israeli detention has been moved to a hospital intensive care unit suffering from a drop in blood sugar, a spokeswoman for the Ramallah-based Palestinian Prisoners Club said on Monday.

Amani Sarahna said that Samer Barq, one of three prisoners on hunger strike for weeks to demand their release from detention without trial, was placed in intensive care at Assaf Harofeh medical centre, in central Israel, early on Monday evening.

Arafat Foundation: 'No Need for More Proof' of Poison

The Yasser Arafat Foundation said Sunday there was "no need" for more proof the Palestinian leader was poisoned in what appeared to be a stance against French plans to exhume his body.
