The Israeli artillery shelled Wednesday the outskirts of al-Labbouneh and al-Naqoura as Israeli media reported the launching of anti-tank missiles towards the upper Galilee. An Israeli drone later carried out a strike on the border town of Markaba.

Hezbollah said it has targeted the Zar'it barracks and the Jal al-Alam post. Hezbollah also targeted with a Burkan rocket a group of soldiers near al-Malkia post. The attack was a "direct hit", the group said.

Israeli war cabinet minister Benny Gantz says he has discussed with French President Emmanuel Macron “the imperative of an international diplomatic effort in Lebanon,” after Israel was accused of assassinating Hamas deputy head Saleh al-Arouri in a brazen drone strike in Beirut’s southern suburbs.

“I expressed my appreciation to President Macron for his commitment to Israel’s security, regional stability, and France’s important efforts to release the hostages held in Gaza,” Gantz said in an English-language post on the X platform.

The deputy chief of UNIFIL’s Strategic Communications and Public Information Office, Kandice Ardiel, on Wednesday voiced concern over any potential escalation following the Israeli drone strike that killed Hamas deputy head Saleh al-Arouri in Beirut’s southern suburbs on Tuesday.

Hezbollah has warned that Israel's killing Tuesday of the deputy Hamas leader in a Beirut southern suburb "will not go unanswered or unpunished."

Hezbollah called it "a serious assault on Lebanon."

The Israeli artillery shelled Tuesday the outskirts of Kfarshouba, al-Dhayra, Tayr Harfa and al-Naqoura, while Israeli warplanes struck Maroun al-Rass in south Lebanon. The Israeli army said the strike was on Hezbollah infrastructure and that the army was responding to missiles launched from Lebanon towards the Shlomi settlement.

An Israeli drone later targeted a cemetery in the town of Yaroun with two missiles.

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has dismissed reports alleging that he had proposed Hezbollah’s “implementation of Resolution 1701” in return for the election of a pro-Hezbollah president.

French army minister Sebastien Lecornu has said that the UNIFIL's mission might become "very dangerous" as he visited a French UNIFIL contingent in Deir Kifa.

Lecornu met with Army chief Joseph Aoun on Monday and discussed with him the U.N. mission and how to protect Lebanese and UNIFIL soldiers amid rising border tensions in south Lebanon.

Israel carried out several airstrikes in south Lebanon on Monday as its artillery struck some border towns.

Lebanon’s National News Agency said Israeli warplanes and drones bombed a house and a gas station in the border town of Kfarkila in two separate raids.

Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi on Monday stressed that the election of a president in Lebanon should not be linked to the raging war in Gaza.

“The failure to elect a president and the use of weak excuses are unacceptable,” al-Rahi said in his New Year’s Day Mass sermon.

Israel carried out a series of airstrikes in south Lebanon on Sunday, as Hezbollah claimed responsibility for attacking an Israeli border post, in a continuation of the cross-border clashes that started on October 8.

Israeli warplanes struck the border villages of Aita al-Shaab, Marwahin, Ramia and Beit Leef, as Israeli drones bombed the outskirts of Alma al-Shaab and Naqoura.
