Abbas 'Leaning toward' PM Fayyad Dismissal, Says Unnamed Official

Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas could dismiss prime minister Salam Fayyad, a Fatah member said on Friday, as the party officially criticized the premier's government for the first time.

Abbas "is leaning towards dismissing Fayyad from the head of the government and forming a new one," a member of Fatah's Revolutionary Council told AFP on condition of anonymity.

Four Italian journalists have been abducted in northern Syria, the Italian Foreign Ministry said, the ANSA news agency reported late Friday.

The Italian authorities said they had been monitoring the case from the start but called for "maximum discretion", insisting that "the physical safety of the hostages remains the absolute priority", the ANSA report said.

Egypt Islamists Stone Iranian Envoy's House

Egyptian Islamist protesters threw stones at the house of Iran's envoy in Cairo on Friday and tried to scale the villa's walls but were blocked by police, a police official said.

The Islamists, who object to a thaw in relations between Egypt and Iran, were also prevented by police from raising the flag adopted by Syrian rebels against Tehran's close ally President Bashar Assad over the envoy's house.

Obama to Host Mideast Allies for Talks on Syria

President Barack Obama will host leaders from key U.S. allies Jordan, Turkey, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates in the coming weeks, amid turmoil in Syria, the White House said Friday.

Islamist Sudan, Egypt Face 'Enemies', Says Morsi

Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi said during his first visit to Sudan on Friday that cooperation between the Islamist regimes in Cairo and Khartoum does not pose any threat and yet they both face "enemies".

A Tunisian military helicopter crashed on Friday near an air base in the capital's suburb of Aouina, injuring two people, a defense ministry spokesman told Agence France Presse.

"A BHT (U.S.-made Bell) helicopter, with the pilot, copilot and three mechanics on board, made a crash landing. Two were lightly hurt and taken to a military hospital," Mokhtar Ben Nasr said.
