Speaker Nabih Berri said after meeting with President Michel Suleiman at Baabda palace on Wednesday that the cabinet formation “gift” on the occasion of the holidays “is on its way but would arrive after Easter.”

Berri also held talks with Prime Minister-designate Najib Miqati on Tuesday night.

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun described the atmosphere at Tuesday’s Christian meeting as “positive and reassuring”.

He said after the movement’s weekly meeting: ““The ice was not broken, but a discussion that may turn into a dialogue was launched, and this is comforting to the Lebanese.”

President Michel Suleiman held talks with Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet in the Baabda palace on Tuesday.

Paet expressed his gratitude to the Lebanese security forces’ efforts in searching for the seven kidnapped Estonian cyclists.

Syria’s allies in Lebanon have expressed their firm support for Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime, as the neighboring country faces unprecedented protests demanding the end of nearly 50 years of emergency rule.

"Today, we stand yet again by our sister Syria ... and by Syria's leaders who have refused to give into pressure or ... to conspire against the resistance," Hizbullah MP Nawaf Moussawi said on Monday during a press conference entitled "In solidarity with Syria against the American-Zionist-Western plot to undermine its national, pan-Arab and resistance role."

President Michel Suleiman telephoned his Syrian counterpart Bashar Assad on Monday to stress to him that Lebanon supports stability and security in Syria, a Baabda palace statement said.

Suleiman “discussed with him (Assad) the latest developments, bilateral ties and the reforms that President Assad had announced,” the statement said.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea has unveiled that he won’t hesitate in shaking hands with his foes Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun and Marada chief Suleiman Franjieh during the meeting of the country’s top Christian officials in Bkirki on Tuesday.

“Tuesday is another day. I will leave everything behind,” Geagea said in an interview with al-Joumhouria newspaper published Monday about his bickering with Aoun and Franjieh.

President Michel Suleiman has warned of the information contained in the latest WikiLeaks cables published by Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar "which largely lack accuracy and credibility and are mainly based on conclusions, curtailment and the citation of a third party," the presidency's press office announced Sunday.

"Some of these leaks are part of a systematic campaign aimed at causing divisions and deepening the rift among citizens and political groups," the press office added in a statement.

Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi returned to Lebanon from Italy on Saturday where he met with Pope Benedict XVI.

He stated from the airport upon his return: “The country can no longer endure the paralysis of its institutions.”

Al-Mustaqbal bloc MP Jamal al-Jarrah said he would meet with Speaker Nabih Berri on Saturday to inform him that he should be “punished” if the Syrian accusations against him turned out to be right.

“The reputation of the parliament and consequently the reputation of one of the lawmakers and his constitutional and legal rights are being raised,” al-Jarrah told An Nahar daily.

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun called on Friday Prime Minister-designate Najib Miqati to take his time in the government formation process, saying that he should not be given any deadlines in this issue.

The MP made his statements in response to Miqati’s announcement from Baabda on Thursday that he will be giving himself more time in the government formation.
