Army Commander General Jean Qahwaji stressed on Monday that the battle against terrorism and terrorists is open, expressing relief over the measures implemented along the Syrian-Lebanese border.

“Terrorism threatens all the Lebanese without any exception,” Qahwaji pointed out in comments published in As Safir newspaper.

President Michel Suleiman stressed on Sunday the need to devise a national defense strategy for Lebanon, while emphasizing that he seeks to hold the presidential elections on time.

He said: “The defense strategy should adhere to the army and the state.”

Hizbullah's position on the national dialogue call issued by President Michel Suleiman will likely be expressed by the party's chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah next week, reported the daily An Nahar on Sunday.

It said that Nasrallah is scheduled to hold a speech during a cultural event in the southern town of Ainata on the afternoon of March 29.

President Michel Suleiman lashed out at the resistance on Friday, saying that it transcended the power given to it when it decided to engage in battles in the neighboring country Syria.

“I am committed to my inauguration oath but when the resistance surpassed the authority given to it I had to be honest with the public and say what my responsibilities compel my as per my constitutional post,” Suleiman said in comments published in al-Joumhouria newspaper.

The presidency issued on Friday invitations to the concerned political parties to resume the national dialogue on March 31.

It said in a statement that the session will resume discussions on a national defense strategy.

A security meeting at the Baabda Palace on Wednesday ordered the competent ministries and security forces to intensify cooperation and take the necessary measures to restore calm in tensed areas across Lebanon.

Western countries voiced fear that Syrian refugees in Lebanon would be driven to Jihad if the Lebanese state didn't provide them with their needs and improve their living conditions.

A prominent western diplomat said in comments published in As Safir newspaper on Tuesday that the international aid for Lebanon aims at helping Lebanon to deal with the large influx of Syrian refugees.

Phalange leader Amin Gemayel visited President Michel Suleiman at Baabda Palace on Tuesday a day after holding talks with the prime minister on his party's reservations over the cabinet's policy statement and amid hints that it is set to withdraw its threat to quit the government.

Several ministers and lawmakers representing the Phalange accompanied Gemayel to seek clarifications from Suleiman, who told the delegation that “the policy statement focuses on the authority of the state in all political affairs and mainly the defense of Lebanon and the liberation of occupied Lebanese territories.”

President Michel Suleiman is determined to revive the national dialogue at the end of March, local newspapers reported on Tuesday.

According to An Nahar newspaper, Suleiman will call the political arch foes for a national dialogue session after he returns from Kuwait, which will be hosting the Arab summit on March 24 and 25.
