New Libya PM Presents 30-Member Cabinet

Libya's new Prime Minister Ali Zeidan on Tuesday presented his 30-member cabinet to the national assembly for approval in the hope of forming a coalition government after his predecessor failed.

Zeidan told the General National Congress, in a televised address, that he had included the main political parties in his line-up, among them the liberal National Forces Alliance and the Islamist Justice and Construction Party, while some top posts were given to independents.

Libya Army Has 'No Control' in Bani Walid, Says Defense Minister

Libya's defense minister said Monday that the army has no control over Bani Walid, one of the last bastions of Moammar Gadhafi's regime, and that armed groups there prevent families from returning home.

"The chief of staff has no control over the town and therefore armed men are able to prevent families from coming back," Osama al-Jueili told journalists in Tripoli, adding that "gunmen" hold a checkpoint leading to the town.

Police: Suspect in Libya U.S. Mission Attack Killed in Cairo

A gunman killed during a police raid on an apartment in northern Cairo is suspected of involvement in a deadly attack last month on the U.S. consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi, police said Thursday.

Various media reports meanwhile suggested that the man who died in Wednesday's raid was a Libyan citizen who is believed to be an Al-Qaida militant.

Libya Fighters Seize Ex-Gadhafi Bastion

Libyan pro-government forces on Wednesday seized control of Bani Walid, one of the last bastions of Moammar Gadhafi's ousted regime, an AFP correspondent in the town said.

Hundreds of fighters, mostly former rebels from the rival town of Misrata, converged on the center of Bani Walid, firing in the air to celebrate and hoisting the Libyan flag on abandoned public buildings, he said.

Clashes in ex-Gadhafi Bastion Kill 9, 122 Wounded

Clashes between Libyan pro-government forces and fighters of Bani Walid, a former bastion of slain dictator Moammar Gadhafi, killed nine people on Saturday and wounded more than 100 others, a medical official said.

"The hospital has received nine people killed and 122 wounded," from the fighting, said the medical official in the city of Misrata, northeast of Bani Walid, where pro-government forces are being treated.

Gadhafi's ex-Spokesman Arrested in Libya

Mussa Ibrahim, who served as the last spokesman for deposed Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, was arrested on Saturday southwest of the capital, the prime minister's office said.

"Mussa Ibrahim was arrested at a checkpoint in the town of Tarhuna," read a brief statement sent to journalists after rumors that he had been detained spread on social networking sites.
