Aoun says some don't want border deal before he leaves Baabda

President Michel Aoun said Monday that some parties do not want the sea border demarcation file to be finalized during his presidential term, while noting that the cabinet formation process has not been suspended.

In a meeting with a delegation from the Syndicate of the Workers of Audiovisual Media, Aoun added that Speaker Nabih Berri and PM-designate Najib Mikati can be asked about this matter, seeing as “they possess the necessary information about everything that is happening in this file.”

Report: Israel to offer Lebanon an unacceptable proposal

Israel’s Channel 12 has leaked what it called the “emerging agreement” with Lebanon over the demarcation of the maritime border.

Lebanon’s pro-Hezbollah newspaper al-Akhbar meanwhile reported that the Israeli proposal is “full of landmines” that the Lebanese side “cannot accept.”

Chamoun granddaughter launches bid for Lebanon presidency

Tracy Chamoun, an ex-ambassador and granddaughter of late president Camille Chamoun, announced Monday she will run for the presidency of crisis-hit Lebanon, in a rare such bid by a woman in the small country.

Chamoun, 61, has not yet received a formal endorsement from any of Lebanon's ruling parties in parliament, whose 128 legislators are tasked with voting for the country's president.

Report: Bassil gives up 30-seat govt., wants to name 2 new ministers

Free Patriotic Movement chief Jebran Bassil has “given up his demand” to enlarge the government from 24 to 30 seats in return for him naming the new economy and displaced ministers who will replace incumbent ministers Amin Salam and Issam Sharafeddine, a media report said.

Submarine finds 10 bodies on Lebanon's sunken migrant ship

A submarine has found the remains of at least 10 migrants who drowned when their boat sank earlier this year off the coast of Lebanon with about 30 people on board, the navy announced.

The boat, carrying dozens of Lebanese, Syrians and Palestinians trying to migrate by sea to Italy, went down more than 5 kilometers from the port of Tripoli, following a confrontation with the Lebanese navy.

Israeli report: War with Lebanon very likely, UNIFIL at Blue Line 'ineffective'

UNIFIL will be Hezbollah's "shield" in the next conflict between Lebanon and Israel, Israeli newspaper The Jerusalem Post said.

"The likelihood of that potential conflict has grown due to the Lebanese Army subservience to Hezbollah, and UNIFIL irrelevance and dereliction of mission to prevent the resumption of hostilities," the daily added.
