Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper pledged Can$122.8 million Wednesday to help Jordan cope with a massive influx of Syrian refugees and boost its counterterrorism capabilities.

Both Canada and Jordan are part of the U.S.-led military mission targeting the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria with airstrikes.

A week of heavy fighting between security forces and the Islamic State jihadist group in the Ramadi area of Anbar province killed 30 police, a top officer said on Monday.

"The city of Ramadi witnessed heavy confrontations and fighting last week between security forces" and IS, Anbar police chief Staff Major General Kadhim al-Fahdawi said, putting the toll at 30 police killed and 100 wounded.

When security fears forced Jordan to close its last border crossing with Syria this month, it severed its most important trade route to the outside, further straining an economy already hit by fallout from war.

"The commander of the 1st Division, Staff Brigadier General Hassan Abbas, and the commander of the 1st Brigade of the 1st Division, Staff Colonel Hilal Matar, and 10 soldiers were killed and 10 wounded," Staff Major General Mohammed al-Dulaimi said.

Jordan's 20-year-old crown prince on Thursday called for measures to prevent the world's youth from being "lured into the dark world" of Islamic extremists as he became the youngest person ever to chair a Security Council meeting.

The Lebanese drivers who have been stranded in Saudi Arabia as a result of the closure of the Nasib border crossing between Jordan and Syria have expressed their disappointment at the cabinet's failure to properly resolve their case, reported As Safir newspaper on Saturday.

They said that the recent cabinet decisions “did not meet their expectations in resolving their case.”

King Abdullah II on Monday pledged Jordan's support for efforts by Libya to confront "terrorist organizations", in talks with Libyan army chief Khalifa Haftar.

Abdullah discussed the Libyan conflict with Haftar and ways of addressing "efforts to counter terrorism and terrorist gangs", the palace said in a statement.

A court in Jordan on Monday ordered six men jailed for waving the Islamic State group's flag and singing jihadist slogans at a wedding.

The state security court sentenced two defendants to five years in prison for "carrying out acts that expose the kingdom to the risk of hostile acts and ruining relations with foreign states."

Nine Lebanese truck drivers, who had been stranded at the Syrian-Jordanian border following clashes between rebels and Syrian government troops, returned to Beirut on Monday.
