Israeli tank fire killed a Palestinian woman in her Gaza home on Thursday, the second day of the worst clashes between the army and Hamas fighters since the devastating 2014 war.

The confrontation came as a new tunnel was discovered reaching into Israel from the Palestinian enclave.

Israeli forces uncovered a Hamas tunnel stretching across the border from Gaza on Thursday, the army said, the second such discovery in recent weeks.

"About four hours ago the IDF exposed a second tunnel in the southern Gaza Strip," army spokesman Peter Lerner said.

Israeli troops fired at a Hamas base in Gaza on Wednesday, Palestinian security sources said, with the Israeli army saying it was responding to mortar fire.

"A mortar round was fired at forces during operational activity adjacent to the security fence in the southern Gaza Strip," the Israeli army said in a statement.

Israel on Tuesday destroyed the West Bank home of a Palestinian accused of aiding in the October 2015 murder of a Jewish settler couple in the Israeli-occupied territory.

Palestinian Zeid Amr, aged 26 or 27, is accused of being part of a squad from the militant Hamas movement that ambushed and shot dead Naama and Eitam Henkin in front of their young children as the couple drove on a road between two West Bank settlements.

Israel on Thursday reiterated its opposition to a planned French peace conference, calling instead for direct and unconditional negotiations with the Palestinians.

"The best way to resolve the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians is direct, bilateral negotiations," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said in a statement.

Israel's Shin Bet security service on Monday accused a Palestinian journalist arrested at the weekend of belonging to a "terror group" after colleagues called for international support for his release.

Omar Nazzal, a member of the general secretariat of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS), was detained by Israeli officials on Saturday at the border between the occupied West Bank and Jordan.

Israeli prosecutors on Monday charged seven young Jews in connection with a wave of so-called "price tag" attacks targeting Palestinians and Arab Israelis and their property, the justice ministry said.

The seven, including a soldier and two minors, allegedly carried out a series of attacks between 2009 and 2013 and in the second half of 2015.

Israel scrambled fighter planes Saturday to intercept an unidentified passenger aircraft entering its airspace and escorted it to land at Tel Aviv, the Israeli military told AFP.

Israeli media reported that the aircraft turned out to be an Air Sinai flight from Cairo to Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow Thursday over fears the Kremlin's involvement in Syria and weapons deliveries to Iran could bolster the Jewish state's fiercest opponents.

"Israel has obvious and evident red lines connected to our security," Netanyahu told Putin at the start of the meeting.

Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi called Thursday for a special criminal court to be set up for Israel, at a meeting to condemn an announcement that it will never return the Golan Heights.

Delegates to the 22-member Arab bloc based in Cairo are expected to pass a resolution denouncing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's pledge Sunday that the occupied Golan Heights would remain Israeli "forever".
