Iran's Zarif Defends 'Balanced' Nuclear Deal to MPs

Iran's foreign minister defended Tuesday what he said was a "balanced" nuclear deal with world powers, telling lawmakers there was a need to accept that the negotiations had required compromise.

In a speech to parliament, Mohammad Javad Zarif emphasized that last week's agreement would secure the lifting in coming months of U.N. and Western sanctions imposed on Iran over its nuclear program.

Geagea Blames Iran for Baabda Vacuum

Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea, a candidate for the country's top Christian post, has accused Iran of causing Lebanon's presidential deadlock.

Report: Fabius Tasked to Discuss Baabda Vacuum during Tehran Visit

French President Francois Hollande has tasked Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius to discuss with Iranian authorities Lebanon's presidential deadlock, pan-Arab daily al-Hayat reported on Tuesday.

The newspaper said Hollande informed Fabius that he should discuss with Iranian officials later this month the importance of ending the presidential vacuum.

Mashnouq Kicks Off France Visit with Security Meetings

Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq kicked off on Monday a trip to France where he is scheduled to meet with a number of security and political officials, reported Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3).

It said that he will begin his visit by holding talks with security officials to discuss coordination in a number of fields, especially combating terrorism.

Iran Says U.N. Resolution Not Linked to Ballistic Missiles

Iran said its ballistic missile program was not connected to the U.N. Security Council resolution adopted Monday that endorses its July 14 nuclear accord with world powers.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to implementing its commitments... so long as" world powers keep their side of the agreement to lift sanctions in exchange for guarantees that Tehran will not develop a nuclear program, the foreign ministry said in a statement.

Britain Hopes for 'More Constructive' Iran after Nuclear Deal

Pentagon Chief Says Iran Nuclear Deal Does not 'Prevent Military Option'

The Iran nuclear deal does not mean military action is off the table when it comes to stopping Tehran from obtaining an atomic bomb, U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said Sunday ahead of a visit to Israel.
