Egypt's foreign ministry accused Gaza's Hamas rulers on Saturday of raiding an Egyptian cultural center in the Palestinian enclave and detaining several Egyptians.

"The foreign ministry strongly condemns and denounces this irresponsible act and demands their release," it said of the Egyptians it claimed Hamas arrested on Saturday morning.

U.N. rights chief Navi Pillay on Wednesday urged the Gaza Strip's Islamist rulers Hamas to halt a string of executions planned after the end of the Muslim Eid al-Fitr holiday.

"I am deeply concerned at the possibility that executions might be carried out over the course of the next weeks in Gaza and urgently appeal to the de facto authorities there not to implement any death sentences," Pillay said in a statement.

Israelis Kill Palestinian on Gaza Border

Israeli troops shot dead a Palestinian on the border with Gaza and wounded another, sources on both sides told Agence France Presse on Sunday .

The 30-year-old man, shot east of El-Bureij in the central Gaza Strip on Saturday night, was named as Hussein Awadallah from Nuseirat refugee camp in the center of the Palestinian enclave.

Gaza Rocket Hits Israel

A rocket fired from Gaza hit southern Israel Tuesday, causing no casualties, a police spokesman said, as a first full day of resumed Middle East peace talks was to open.

"A rocket was fired from Gaza and exploded in a field in Israeli territory without causing any damage or casualties," Micky Rosenfeld told Agence France Presse.

Two rockets fired from the Gaza Strip hit southern Israel on Wednesday but caused no damage or casualties, a police spokeswoman said.

"The rockets landed in the Eshkol region," Luba Samri told Agence France Presse, adding that "security forces are searching for their remains".

Police: Gaza Rocket Hits Israel

Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired a rocket at southern Israel that exploded without causing damage or injuries, an Israeli police spokesman told Agence France Presse on Monday.

"It exploded near a kibbutz in the Eshkol region," shortly before midnight on Sunday, said Micky Rosenfeld, adding police were still searching for the remains of what he said was a Qassam rocket.

Israeli F16 Crashes into Sea Off Gaza

An Israeli warplane crashed into the Mediterranean Sea on Sunday following a malfunction although both crew members were rescued unharmed, a military spokesman told Agence France Presse.

"An F16 combat aircraft crashed earlier today into the sea after its engine malfunctioned," he said.

Hamas Urges Faith in Arab Spring despite Morsi Ouster

Ismail Haniya, head of the Hamas government in Gaza, appealed in a Friday sermon to have faith in the Arab Spring despite the ouster of Egypt's Islamist president Mohamed Morsi by the army.

"Do not fear for the Palestinian cause or for the resistance (against Israel) or for Gaza. Egypt is behind us, as are the Arab and Islamic countries," Haniya said.

Ankara Says Date of Erdogan's Gaza Trip Not Yet Decided

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit Gaza next week, a senior official in the ruling Hamas movement told a newspaper on Thursday, although Ankara insisted a date has not yet been set.

"The visit of Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan is to take place on July 5," Abdelsalam Siyyam, secretary general of the Hamas government said in an interview with Falestin, a daily considered very close to the Islamist movement.
