"Anybody got a match?" was Lauren Bacall's first line, in Howard Hawks' "To Have and Have Not," and, ever since, captive moviegoers have been desperately fumbling for a light.
Bacall, who died Tuesday in New York at age 89, seemed to live in black and white. Her slinky sultriness rose like an apparition from the dark shadows of 1940s film noir, her leopard-like eyes beaming from the dark, her smoky voice oozing wisdom beyond her years from the very start.

Hollywood was plunged into mourning for the second time in as many days Wednesday after golden age icon Lauren Bacall, who lit up the silver screen in a series of classic movies opposite her husband Humphrey Bogart, died aged 89.
"With deep sorrow, yet with great gratitude for her amazing life, we confirm the passing of Lauren Bacall," the Bogart estate confirmed in a brief statement on Twitter.

Celine Dion has indefinitely halted all her show business activity and canceled her upcoming Asia tour to care for her husband as he battles ill health, the superstar said Wednesday.
"I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband's healing, and to do so it's important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children," Dion said on her Facebook page.

Not all the actors at a star-packed news conference Tuesday for the new film "The Giver" had been familiar with Lois Lowry's acclaimed 1994 book before they made the film. But Taylor Swift sure had been.
The 24-year-old singer read it in school, and says it had a huge influence on her outlook on life.

Recently Kim Kardashian West sent her stepfather Bruce Jenner a text because of something she read online.
"I text(ed) Bruce, 'I saw on TMZ that you got pulled over. Are you OK?'" she recalled during a recent interview with The Associated Press.

Justin Bieber will plead guilty to lesser charges following his arrest for driving under the influence in Miami last January, a local newspaper reported Tuesday.
The Canadian pop singer will agree to attend an anger management class and make a 50,000 dollar charitable contribution, the Miami Herald said, quoting sources.

Comedy legend Robin Williams was found dead in the bedroom of his home near San Francisco with a belt around his neck and slight wounds to his wrist, police said Tuesday.
With an investigation still underway, the Marin County Sheriff's Office said suicide remains the apparent cause of death for the 63-year-old Oscar-winning actor, who had been grappling with severe depression.

President Barack Obama called Robin Williams "one of a kind" who shared his talent "freely and generously with those who needed it most."
Williams was pronounced dead at his home in California Monday and officials said it appeared to be a suicide.

I’ve been trying really hard to be positive about Jonathan Liebesman’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I genuinely wanted to love this movie, and did my best to ignore all the negative buzz surrounding it. But while the flick does manage to deliver moments of genuine fun, it’s simply too generic and lazy to stand out in a summer that’s given us some truly incredible science-fiction/superhero blockbusters. Maybe the fact that Guardians of the Galaxy totally killed it last week unfairly raised my expectations for TMNT, but either way, it could (and should) have been better.
