As Denmark faces a barrage of criticism over its controversial plan to seize refugees' valuables, Switzerland has already been doing so for years, Swiss authorities said Friday.

Swiss asylum law has since the 1990s required asylum seekers to contribute to the costs of hosting them in the wealthy Alpine country.

Euroskeptic Denmark goes to the polls Thursday in a referendum on stepping up its participation in EU police and judicial cooperation, with the outcome uncertain amid fears ranging from jihadist attacks to the migrant crisis.

Held three weeks after the Paris attacks that left 130 people dead, the referendum was originally scheduled to take place in 2016 but was moved up so it wouldn't interfere with the campaign for Britain's EU referendum, due to be held before 2017.

Danish police arrested two men at Copenhagen's Kastrup Airport on Wednesday after they were overheard discussing a bomb in one of their bags, prompting the evacuation of the terminal, police said.

Terminal 3 was evacuated at around 12:00 pm (1100 GMT) after police were notified of the conversation. The terminal was reopened several hours later. 

Danish police on Tuesday arrested a Palestinian man suspected of stabbing a policeman at the country's largest reception center for asylum seekers, which had sparked a manhunt in the area.

The officer was critically wounded after being stabbed three times in the stomach, but after surgery his condition was stable.

A Danish supervisory body said Friday it had launched an inquiry into whether controversial advertisements published by the Danish government in Lebanese newspapers to warn off migrants were misleading.

The country's parliamentary ombudsman Jorgen Steen Sorensen, who ensures that public authorities comply with the laws and other statutes governing their actions, said he was investigating the matter.

Denmark will hold a referendum December 3 on whether to keep its opt-out to the EU's justice and home affairs rules, it said Friday.

In order to stay on as a member of the European police agency Europol, Copenhagen must relinquish the exemption it negotiated after Danes rejected the Maastricht Treaty in 1992.

Diplomats have said that Paris was able to clinch the Lebanese authorities' approval to appoint Emmanuel Bonne as ambassador to Beirut despite the failure of several missions to receive a positive feedback from the Lebanese authorities.

The diplomats, who were not identified, told An Nahar daily published on Tuesday that “only France has so far been able to receive an official approval (from Beirut) to appoint Bonne.”

Moroccan police have arrested three Afghans suspected of links with jihadists as they prepared to board a plane to Denmark, officials said Wednesday.

They said the three men were detained on Saturday at Marrakesh airport holding fake Pakistani passports.

A U.S. airstrike in northern Iraq has killed an Islamic State operative who was a person of interest in the 2012 Benghazi attack, the Pentagon said Monday.

Pentagon spokesman Colonel Steve Warren said Ali Awni al-Harzi of Tunisia was killed in Mosul on June 15.
