India Searches for Seven Fishermen Missing in Storm

India's coast guard was searching Monday for seven fishermen whose trawlers capsized in the Bay of Bengal, but 600 others who had been missing were safe, an official said.

The seven fishermen were on board two trawlers which sank in a storm overnight on Sunday off the coast of West Bengal in eastern India, the head of the Fishermen's Welfare Association said.

Bangladesh said Thursday it has barred official marriages between its nationals and Myanmar's Muslim Rohingya refugees, whom it claims are attempting to wed to gain citizenship.

Law minister Syed Anisul Haque said he has ordered marriage registrars not to officiate any unions between Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas and also between Rohingyas themselves, thousands of whom have fled to Bangladesh.

A Bangladeshi court sentenced eight Islamists to death Monday for a 2001 bomb attack that killed 10 people and wounded scores more during the country's main celebrations for the Bengali New Year.

The head of the outlawed Harkat-ul-Jihad al Islami (HuJI) outfit, Mufti Abdul Hannan, was among the eight sentenced to hang for planning and carrying out the bombing in Dhaka's main park.
