Canada Auto Union Hoping for Deal in Ford Talks

The Canadian Auto Workers union will focus on reaching an agreement with Ford as negotiations continue with all of Detroit's Big Three automakers with a strike deadline looming Monday night, the head of the union said.

CAW President Ken Lewenza said Sunday that Ford has shown a willingness to reach an agreement. He said talks with Chrysler and General Motors will continue but high level talks will be focused on Ford. A strike at all three automakers would affect about 20,000 workers and about 16 percent of North American auto production.

U.N. Confirms 'Foreign Elements' in Syria, Says Rights Violations Soaring

An increasing number of "foreign elements" including jihadis are now operating in Syria, an independent U.N. panel confirmed Monday in its first report to say that outside "terrorists" have joined a war spiraling out of control.

The investigative panel appointed by the Human Rights Council says some of these forces are joining armed anti-government groups while others are operating on their own.

FIFA said Brazilians will have until mid-November to choose the mascot's name from three choices — Amijubi, Fuleco and Zuzeco. The mascot's announcement was made Sunday on a television show with the participation of former Brazil star Ronaldo.

Mexican Hackers Attack Political, Official Sites

Mexican hackers have taken over more than a dozen websites belonging to political parties and local governments and posted a message criticizing the government on the nation's Independence Day.

The hackers targeted sites such as that of the government-owned National Auditorium, the National Action Party branch in the Yucatan and the southeastern Mexican town of Macuspana.

Fashion Designer Pinto Teams With Chicago Museum

Designer Maria Pinto, well-known for dressing first lady Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey, used her eye for fashion to curate antiquities from the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago for a new exhibit that includes a century-old shredded bark Brazilian ceremonial costume and a woven monkey fur necklace.

The materials are a stretch from the rich, bright purple silk Pinto used to design the sheath Obama wore during the 2008 Democratic National Convention. "Fashion and The Field Museum Collection: Maria Pinto" opened Friday and includes an Inuit raincoat made of seal intestines. It was the first item that caught Pinto's attention, she said.
