Alcatraz Exhibit is Tribute to Political Prisoners

An exhibition by Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei has transformed the former island prison of Alcatraz into a tribute to the world's political prisoners, some famous and some forgotten.

Called "@ large: Ai Weiwei on Alcatraz," the installation opens Saturday at the former maximum-security prison in the San Francisco Bay.

Arturo Vidal scored twice as Juventus comfortably beat Cesena 3-0 on Wednesday to become the first team in Serie A history to win its opening four matches without conceding a goal.

Chelsea Edges Past Bolton; City Routs Sheff Weds

Chelsea needed Oscar's first goal of the season to beat Bolton 2-1 in the League Cup on Wednesday, while holder Manchester City routed another second-tier side, Sheffield Wednesday, with seven second-half goals.

Oscar secured Chelsea's victory in the second half after 19-year-old Kurt Zouma's debut goal was canceled out by Bolton defender Matt Mills. Chelsea, which leads the Premier League, was immediately drawn to play fourth-tier side Shrewsbury in the fourth round on October 28 or 29.

The Qatari women's basketball team is still hoping for approval to play with their headscarves at the Asian Games, the chief of Qatar's delegation said Thursday, though officials were expected to disqualify the team if it does not relent.

NC Artist Burns Glass into Sculptures

A huge grin appears on the face of glass artist Jonathan Michael Davis as he burns hole after hole through spheres of glass, making a popping sound.

Davis, a glassblower by trade, uses a sabre of flame made of liquid oxygen and propane to manipulate glass into elaborate art and sculptures at his studio and playground in rural Chatham County, North Carolina. The temperature from the torch in Davis' studio rises along with the anticipation of a large glass sculpture in the making.

Rare Warhol Paintings Headed to NYC Auction

Elvis Presley. Marlon Brando. Andy Warhol. The A-list trifecta of music, film and art is going on the auction block at Christie's in November.

"Triple Elvis (Ferus Type)" and "Four Marlons" rate among Warhol's most famous portraits. The monumental paintings, each nearly 7 feet (2.1 meters) high, have never appeared at auction before and could bring a combined total of $130 million when they go up for bid on Nov. 12.

NASCAR Sets Testing Ban that Includes Daytona 500

NASCAR announced a new rules package Tuesday that will ban all private testing in 2015, including the annual Daytona 500 test, and levy the stiffest penalty possible on any team caught conducting its own sessions.

The only testing allowed next season will be sessions conducted by NASCAR or Goodyear. Any team caught testing on its own will receive a P6 penalty, the highest on NASCAR's new punishment scale. It carries a loss of 150 points, a minimum $150,000 fine and a six-week suspension for the crew chief and other crew members.
