A California company has recalled several brands of soft cheeses after they were linked to 24 illnesses around the U.S. over the last five years, including a 2012 death in Ohio.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday that Karoun Dairies, Inc., has voluntarily recalled and stopped production of several cheeses, including those sold under the brand names Karoun, Arz, Gopi, Queso Del Valle, Central Valley Creamery and Yanni.

President Barack Obama said Friday that he will nominate longtime Pentagon official Eric Fanning to be the Army's new secretary. If confirmed, Fanning would be the U.S. first openly gay leader of a military service.
The nomination comes as the Obama administration works to eliminate barriers to military service based on sexuality or gender. Army secretary is a civilian position.

Air pollution is killing 3.3 million people a year worldwide, according to a new study that includes this surprise: Farming plays a large role in smog and soot deaths in industrial nations.
Scientists in Germany, Cyprus, Saudi Arabia and Harvard University calculated the most detailed estimates yet of the toll of air pollution, looking at what caused it. The study also projects that if trends don't change, the yearly death total will double to about 6.6 million a year by 2050.

Apple is delaying a big software update for the Apple Watch because it found a bug that is taking longer than expected to fix.
Apple Inc. said in a statement that it will not release watchOS 2, the new operating system for the Watch, on Wednesday as planned. It did not say when it will launch, only that it will happen "shortly."

Smartphone users now have more than 165,000 apps available to help them stay healthy or monitor a medical condition, but just three dozen account for nearly half of all downloads, according to a new report.
Most apps focus on fitness or wellness by helping the user do things like count calories or track steps walked. Doctors and other care providers also are taking a growing interest in using apps to help patients, but concerns about a lack of research and data protection are limiting wider use of the technology, the IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics said.

West debuted Yeezy Season 2 on Wednesday at the Skylight Modern. The collection was launched in four sets: First a woman entered the stage wearing tan, almost the same color as her skin, and she yelled, "First row, fall in. Second row, fall in."
