20 Hindu Pilgrims Killed in India Road Accident

Police said Thursday that at least 20 people were killed and another 35 injured when a truck carrying Hindu pilgrims crashed into a gorge in northern India.

Police officer Sukhchain Singh Gill said the accident happened as the driver lost control of the vehicle after its brakes failed.

U.S., Vietnam Ink Civil Nuclear Deal

The United States and Vietnam are moving to boost cooperation in the energy sector by signing a deal on civilian nuclear power that will allow American firms into the market and commits the Vietnamese to not producing ingredients for atomic weapons.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and his Vietnamese counterpart inked the so-called "123 agreement" on Thursday at the East Asian Summit in Brunei. Under its terms, Vietnam pledges not to enrich its own uranium and instead acquire what it needs on the international market.

Record Breaker Nyad Attempts 48-Hour Swim in NYC

The 64-year-old woman who swam from Cuba to Florida is attempting to swim in a pool in midtown Manhattan for 48 straight hours to benefit victims of Superstorm Sandy.

Wearing a pink swim cap, Diana Nyad dove into the 40-yard (36.6-meter) pool set up in Herald Square and began doing laps shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday. Her aim is to raise money for people still struggling a year after Sandy.
