Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri said from London that he will resume the efforts to resolve the government formation deadlock after he returns from his trip that kicked off on Wednesday to partake in the Lebanese-British investment forum.

President Michel Aoun is seeking to resolve the government formation gridlock but reportedly insists on naming parties blamed for the obstruction if his mission fails, the pan-Arab al-Hayat daily reported on Thursday.

Aoun has informed his visitors that he will seek to resolve the impasse but plans to reveal to the public and “tell the Lebanese who is obstructing the government formation process,” unnamed sources told the newspaper.

Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri assured from London that Lebanon will seek to “make the CEDRE support conference” succeed despite the delayed efforts to form a new government.

President Michel Aoun held talks with head of the Democratic Gathering MP Taymour Jumblat where discussions highlighted the latest developments, the National News Agency reported on Wednesday.

Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri paid tribute on Wednesday to slain MP Gebran Tueni marking the 13th anniversary of his assassination.

“On the 13th anniversary of the martyrdom of Journalist Gebran Tueni, we remember his brave words and free oath in defense of Lebanon and the unity of the Lebanese,” said Hariri in a remark on Twitter.

Lebanese Army Commander General Joseph Aoun discussed on Tuesday with British Ambassador to Lebanon Chris Rampling and U.S. Ambassador Elizabeth Richard the progress in the security project on the Lebanese-Syrian border, the British embassy in Beirut said in a statement.

President Michel Aoun received on Tuesday the UNIFIL commander, Maj. Gen. Stefano Del Col in Baabda where discussions focused on the developments in south Lebanon following Israel’s intention to launch Operation Northern Shield to demolish alleged Hizbullah tunnels, the National News Agency reported on Tuesday.

The President announced that “Lebanon will wait for the results of field investigations following Israeli claims that Hizbullah has dug tunnels into Israel,” NNA said.

New hope has emerged on Tuesday after an “urgent” invitation from President Michel Aoun aimed at exploring means to break the monthslong government formation deadlock, al-Joumhouria daily reported on Tuesday.

French President Emmanuel Macron vowed Monday to hike wages as of next year while stressing that “legitimate anger does not justify violence and rioting.”

In an address to the nation, Macron announced a 100-euro ($113) per month increase in the minimum wage from next year in a major concession to "yellow vest" protesters who have roiled the country.

The Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir affirmed Saudi backing for Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri’s endeavors in forming a national consensus government, and “rejected Iran’s interference in Lebanon and Hizbullah’s role.”
