Israel Adds 20 West Bank Settlements to Aid List

The Israeli government on Sunday added 20 settlements in the West Bank to a list drawn up in 2009 of Jewish communities prioritized for aid.
Hundreds of communities in the occupied Palestinian territory figure on the list for public aid in housing, infrastructure, education, cultural activities and security spending.
The settlements added to the priority list include communities outside the main blocks over which Israel aims to keep control under any peace settlement with the Palestinians, said Haaretz newspaper.
It said most of them are strongholds of Jewish Home, a nationalist party in the coalition government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who refused to declare a freeze on settlement construction as demanded by the Palestinians as a condition for a renewal of peace talks.
Talks resumed in Washington last week after a three-year hiatus.

I see, so Israel's annexing of lands bordering already annexed lands may officially be annexed and be assimilated into Israel. Gotcha, "peace talks", obviously.

I wonder what "compromises" Israel will provide. Would the Jewish people accept any return of land? Highly doubtful, but yeah, I'm being told that in this round of talks Israel will show some pity and return to the palestinians a scrap or two of land.
Hey, what can the Israeli government do if the referendums to return land isn't approved by its populace, it's not Israel's fault, it's democracy's.

maybe you should do a SHOCK article about the new palestinian city (Rawabi) thats being built, and how it is an obstacle to peace. pathetic.
- hamas, which its declared aim of destroying israel is not an obstacle to peace.
- PLO lost the elections and do not represent anyone, but negotiating with a puppet isn't an obstacle to peace
palestine is a democracy? hahaha.. when was the last elections? 1980's?

Ah yes, peace; the referendums I was talking about belongs to the Israeli government. It's the Israeli public that will vote on such matters. So yeah, what can the gov. do if it's democracy dictating lands will not be returned and settlements must continue expanding? etc.
It's also Israel's fault Hamas went rogue by not recognizing is authority when it was voted by its people to be the representative of the Palestinian people(when it won against the PLO supported by the US/Israel).

there is no reason why the state of palestine (whatever, whenever) should have no jewish residents. the jewish residents of the west-bank could become citizens of the new palestinian state. if you think its not acceptable, are you supporting the deportation of israels' arab/muslim populace?
"Israel's fault Hamas went rogue" - israel is to blame for hamas throwing its political opponents from rooftops? funny man. 'went rogue' - as compared to its previous 'unrogue' status? :)
lets be honest here, the 'palestinians' had over 60 years to create a state. in the first 20 years (1948-1967) there was no israeli occupation nor settlements.. yet they couldn't be bothered creating a state. the 'palestinians' have proven they are either incapable of or uninterested in creating an independent state.

Good point you raise there with the last one. I'm not quite sure as to why they failed(?) to create a state during that time, though I'm willing to guess it had something to do with colonial powers preventing such a thing from happening as they assessed the value of jewish politicization(which of course of their right(the jews' that is)).
Hamas was docile when it was under the wing of the brotherhood. They created healthcare facilities, libraries, schools and so on. It was zionist pestilence that made them resort to forming a resistance long before the they were branded terrorists.

I don't quite know where you got all that from, quite a weird jumble of thoughts you have there. What I said was that concessions of land are to be agreed upon by the public. This was stated by I think Livni.
What would happen if Israelis vote in favor of not returning lands, or not returning most of the lands, or something to that effect, seeing as how many Israelis loath Palestinians and many polls and conducted surveys show that the Israeli population is unwilling to get involved in peace talks and that they are particularly animus of the idea of returning lands. How can Israel rationalize their refusal to hand over confiscated land? Would they lay fault on democracy?

"How can Israel rationalize their refusal" - lets clarify first that you're talking hypotheticals. so far it was the palestinians who refused all offers, and i'm not sure what their excuse was.
in much the same way you dont need to rationalise why you dont want to give your left arm to your neighbour, israel needs no rationalisation for trying to maintain its sovereignty and security in light of past experiences. you dont need anyones' approval or legitimacy for your existence, nor does israel.
"it had something to do with colonial power" - seems like its always someone else's fault. assuming you're right - if egypt and jordan are responsible for the lack of palestinian state (having occupied it in 1948), why should israel be the one to pay the price?
israel gave citizenship to all refugees within its territory (jews & arabs), the arabs kept them in a political prison. if the palestinians want compensation, they should ask the 7 nations that attacked them in 1948.
