The Internal Security Forces completed on Tuesday the destruction of cannabis crops in the central Bekaa.

The operations, held at the field of the town of al-Allaq in the Baalbek province, took place under the supervision of the Lebanese army given the attack the ISF came under on Monday as it was destroying other cannabis fields.

Seventeen tractors were involved in the destruction of the fields that measure up to 300 dunums.

No security incident was reported, with the security forces stressing that they will continue their operations until “they meet their goals.”

The head of the Bekaa anti-drug bureau Elias Zoaiter said: “The operations are being carried out in a manner that would ensure the destruction of illegal crops and maintain the authority and dignity of the state.”

“We are also working on tackling the sensitive areas in the appropriate manner in order to complete our mission,” he added.

On Monday, the security forces and Lebanese army came under attack as they were destroying cannabis crops in the western Bekaa.

Zoaiter added that a large group of gunmen were spotted in a region far from Tuesday’s area of operation.

There are over 30,000 dunums of cannabis crops in the northern Bekaa.

It would make much more sense to decriminalise Cannabis, and allow a market to flourish which would yield Taxation revenues to the Governments of those countries where cannabis flourishes, and a much sought for crop in the hands of the farmers, which they could sell at premium prices, given their skill that has developed over generations of cannabis growing, and which is universally recognised. Lebanese Red, and Lebanese Gold are universally recognised names, and stand for the highest degree of purity and potency.
