EU Ambassador to Lebanon Christina Lassen met Monday evening with Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri to discuss "the latest progress in the consultation efforts led by the Prime Minister-designate to form a new government," her office said.

"The continued absence of a government is starting to negatively impact Lebanon's economic situation and the lives of so many Lebanese," Lassen said and wished the PM-designate success with his latest efforts.

In the meeting, Lassen and Hariri exchanged views on the economic situation and the follow-up efforts to the CEDRE conference.

Lassen underlined the need to make progress on the reforms proposed by the government in April and said the European Union "stands ready to support Lebanon in the implementation of these reforms."

Lassen finally informed the Prime Minister-designate about the preparations for the upcoming Brussels III Conference.

"Negatively impact" means Lebanese are starting to think about changing the constitution. Paris has promised to intervene militarily to defend and protect the Lebanese Constitution in its present form. Brussels has not gone quite that far. Brussels muttered to Paris, "Can't we do it with someone else's jets?"
