Mustaqbal Officials in Riyadh to Brief Hariri on Election Talks

Al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc leader MP Fouad Saniora is in Riyadh to brief al-Mustaqbal movement chief ex-Premier Saad Hariri on the results of consultations held in Beirut over the presidential elections.

An Nahar daily said Friday that Saniora was accompanied by Nader Hariri, the adviser of al-Mustaqbal movement leader.

Foreign Minister Jebran Bassil has reportedly told the adviser during a meeting they held on Sunday that Free Patriotic Movement chief Michel Aoun would not announce his candidacy for the presidency if there was no political consensus on him.

Bassil, who is Aoun's son-in-law, said the FPM leader rejected his possible candidacy to be considered against the presidential bid of Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea, a Hariri ally.

Similar meetings were held in the past week between Geagea and Saad Hariri's envoy to discuss the elections that should be held by May 25 when President Michel Suleiman's six-year tenure ends.

Geagea met with Nader Hariri last Saturday and former MP Ghattas Khoury on Monday.

The LF chief's press office said Monday's “talks focused on the importance of preserving the unity of the March 14 alliance at this stage to bring a single candidate from the coalition to the presidency.”

Geagea announced last week that he would run for president, throwing the March 14 coalition in confusion after several of its officials said that the camp would have a single candidate.

Now that you mention it, it looks like he's taking his shahada.

But naaaah, nothing you mentioned. Just useless and unproductive.

To be upfront i'm not lebanese and don't really lean or care about internal lebanese politics. I often read the news and enjoy the commentary from other sides.

I would just like to ask how Mustaqbal supporters can explain their leader living mostly outside of Lebanon and having his aids fly to him vs him flying home for meetings. Can anyone shed any light on this for me. I am still baffled by this as I don't think it happens anywhere else in the world that i have seen.

I would love a perfectly clear and simple explanation. Thanks everyone

So what ? Hezbollah accepts to be in the same cabinet as what they claim are "Israeli" and "Saudi" agents funding sunni terrorism...

Irrelevance...

What is relevant though is Hezbollah's involvement in countless murders, assassinations and bombings and their obstruction of justice, harbouring of criminals including the latest Tripoli bomber EID !

So chill and think for a minute before you vomit new nonsense about others. Think about your Hezbollah and their actions and how on earth you can defend such terrorists !

I now have come to the conclusion that our politicians, all of them in fact, regard us citizens just as numbers, consumer numbers. You want to eat, then buy what we import for you. You want to relax, then pay at the beach entrance. You want to drive your car, then go to the mechanique and pay. You are sick, then go to the pharmacy and buy medication. So, the food, a lot of it is expired, or manufactured using dubious ingredients, so are pharmaceuticals, and the beaches which are ours anyway are not allowed us, our bread too is phoney. Now we come to governance: we have some of the best brains around, we are in no short supply of patriotism or decency and professionalism, but again, we are made to understand that it's either this or nothing. So if we Lebanese decide to live, it will be with them around, if we decide to leave, they can replace us with millions of newcomers. Truly, pity this nation.

Eh wallah ya FD, you hit the nail right on center. Can't add more bro, but it's sad to see our terrible reality in Lebanon.

I believe Gagea announced his candidacy to know where Mustaqbal stands from him so he know where he stands alliances wise.
I think Gaegae will agree to a single M14 candidate by consensus, but will not stand for Mustaqbal making deals with Aoun.
I personally would rather see Gaegae, Gemayel, Aoun, Franjieh, and other Christians figure heads agree on one candidate (preferably Kattar or Baroud) and put their combined weights behind such candidate.

This man is a devoted public servant. He interrupted his ski vacation in Switzerland to fly home to Rihadh to meet this delegation.

Chris, this is sharp, you definitely described the man properly.

Does anyone really think he left behind his company, his power, and whatever else to go live in Saudi for no reason??... Or that geagea is essentially on house arrest cause he likes chillin at home?

They're scared of something, and honestly I don't think it's Israel.

Saad deserves to come back to this country... And geagea, well, him, jumblatt, n aoun should just retire.
