Miqati Says Lebanese Reject Strife, Enjoy High Level of Awareness

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati stressed that the recent deadly car bombings in Beirut's southern suburbs and the northern city of Tripoli have pushed the Lebanese to reject strife.

In remarks to As Safir newspaper published on Monday, Miqati said that “the conclusion reached from the two bombings is that the people don't want strife and enjoy a high level of awareness to confront this danger.”

Asked whether he would activate the work of his caretaker government to confront the challenges, Miqati said: “The only solution now is in the formation of an all-embracing cabinet and nothing else.”

Premier-designate Tammam Salam has so far failed to form his government over conditions and counter-conditions set by the bickering parties.

Two coordinated explosions rocked two mosques in Tripoli on Friday, raising already simmering sectarian tensions in the country.

A car bomb also targeted Beirut's southern suburbs controlled by Hizbullah on August 15.

The bombings are seen as the latest evidence that Syria's bloody civil war is increasingly drawing in Lebanon.
