Geagea on Baabda Attack: I Never Imagined President Could Be Targeted by Lebanese

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea condemned on Friday the Baabda rockets that were fired late on Thursday, lauding President Michel Suleiman's stances on Army Day.

He said in a statement: “I never once imagined that the president could be targeted by Lebanese powers.”

“Israel itself had never attacked the president even during its assaults against Lebanon,” he remarked.

He said that the target of the attack was “very clear”, explaining that they both landed near the presidential palace in Baabda.

Geagea therefore praised Suleiman's “clear national and constitutional” positions, condemning the media campaign against him.

“The reality demonstrates that some side no longer want a president or republic because they are content with their own 'republic',” he added.

Two rockets were fired in the Baabda area late on Thursday.

One landed in the garden of the Freiha villa that is located near the Officers' Club.

The second rocket landed near the Khashoqji castle in al-Yarzeh.

No one was injured in the incident.

The attack came on the same day that Suleiman gave a speech on the occasion of Army Day in which he criticized Hizbullah's involvement in the Syrian war in support of President Bashar Assad's forces.
