Salam Kicks Off Consultations to Form Cabinet

Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam resumed consultations on Thursday to form a new cabinet after a short standstill over disputes among the political foes.

A delegation from al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc held talks with Salam. The delegation included MPs Atef Majdalani, Bassem al-Shab and Riad Rahhal.

The delegation left without making any statement.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea also delegated former minister Tony Karam to meet with Salam.

Later on Thursday, Salam held talks with caretaker Social Affairs Minister Wael Abu Faour.

Salam is seeking to form a cabinet divided equally between the Lebanese foes and the centrists and rejects to grant the veto power to any party.

On Monday, the PM-designate said that there was still no progress in the formation of a new government and that a decision to step down was one of the available options.
