A suspicious suitcase that was found Tuesday in the Cite Sportive area in Beirut turned out to contain paper used in counterfeiting currency notes, state-run National News Agency reported.
“Security forces closed the Cite Sportive-Kuwaiti Embassy road after they suspected that a suitcase placed on the side of the road leading to the Kuwaiti embassy might contain a bomb,” NNA said.
The tunnel leading to the Rafik Hariri International Airport was also closed ahead of the arrival of a bomb technician, the agency added.
“The road and the tunnel were later reopened after the suitcase turned out to contain paper used in counterfeiting currency notes,” it said.
