Egyptian “Eduudle” team has been selected as one of the semi-finalist teams for this year’s MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab Region Start-Up Competition for the Idea’s Track.
Similar to tripadvisor.com is eduudle.com for online courses. It helps learners find the courses that fit their needs among more than 6000 courses around 1000 of which are free and include courses offered by MIT, Harvard, UC Berkeley, Stanford and top professors including Steve Blank.
Inspiration
Bassem was quite disappointed, for his efforts were in vain after looking for online courses about “mobile app development”. Google results were not satisfying at all. “Well, if there were a ‘TripAdvisor-like’ website for online courses, it would’ve solved the problem perfectly” he thought. The ultimate motivation behind stepping into online education is realizing its unequaled impact as a disruptive innovation to traditional and outdated education systems. Now, a Google vice president can teach an online course about “how to develop a program to run a self-driving car” to more than 200,000 students around the world for free – and in fact he did!
Problem assessment and solution
Bassem Fayek and Zaid Marji, who met by chance in New York, had the time to discuss the rising trend of online education initiatives by universities, NGOs, and startups. They both considered how challenging it is to know about all these resources and to decide which one is best for the researcher.
So they developed Eduudle, an aggregator and search engine tool that compiles the best of MIT, Stanford, UC Berkeley, Harvard, and more than 70 universities’ free online courses in addition to online courses developed by practitioners in social media marketing, search engine optimization, coding, UX/UI, design, photography and other fields. Same as in TripAdvisor, learners are assisted to make even better decisions in choosing what best fits them based on other people’s recommendations and preferences like price, university provider, course rating, difficulty, language, etc.
Advice for entrepreneurs
“You will waste the same time solving the small problems as solving the big problems, so focus your efforts on solving the big problems”.
