March 14 Alliance to Celebrate 8th Anniversary at BIEL

March 14 General Secretariat coordinator Fares Soaid announced on Friday that the alliance will celebrate the eighth anniversary of the formation of the movement at the Beirut International Exhibition and Leisure Center (BIEL) on March 17.

He made the announcement after holding talks at Maarab with Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea

“March 14 is an occasion to remember a national movement that transcends sects and which has presented several achievements to Lebanon such as ensuring the Syrian troop withdrawal from Lebanon” in April 2005, he added.

In addition to the planning of the March 14 celebration, talks with Geagea focused on the latest developments in Lebanon.

The celebration will serve as an opportunity to demonstrate the March 14 camp's unity, reported An Nahar and al-Liwaa newspapers reported Friday.

Soaid is expected to continue talks with officials over the planning of the ceremony with Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel, Mustaqbal bloc chief MP Fouad Saniora, and several opposition independent MPs and officials.

The outcome of the meetings will decide the program of the ceremony, the dailies said.

The event is aimed at sending a clear message to the Lebanese that the opposition alliance remains united despite differences among its factions on the electoral draft-law.

The coalition takes its name from the historic demonstration in downtown Beirut's Martyrs Square on March 14, 2005 that ultimately led to the withdrawal of Syrian forces from Lebanon in the aftermath of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri's assassination.
