Head of the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Mohammed Raad defended on Thursday Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour's remarks on Syria Wednesday, saying that they adhere to the Lebanese government's policy of disassociation.
He said in a statement: “His statements accurately reflect Lebanon's official stance on Syria.”
He deemed as “positive” the minister's “clear remarks that reflected a national and popular responsibility towards Lebanon's official position.”
“His remarks expressed his keenness on the safety of the entire region and the interests of its people that are being affected by the ongoing developments in Syria,” added the Hizbullah MP.
“Some Lebanese opposition members' condemnation of Masour's statements are a translation of their agreement to exercise spite against the government,” Raad noted.
“Lebanon is proud to play a constant positive role for the sake of all Arabs,” he said.
“The actions of some Lebanese, who have deigned to become pawns of disruption in the country, are completely shameful,” he stressed.
“We proudly salute the bold positions of Minister Mansour and renew our commitment to the government's policy of disassociation,” Raad added.
Mansour had suggested at an Arab League meeting on Wednesday that Syria's seat at the League be restored.
His proposal was met with Prime Minister Najib Miqati's criticism, who said that his stance does not reflect that of the government.
Several members of the March 14 opposition condemned the foreign minister's statement, accusing him of serving Iran, Syria, and Hizbullah's interests in a manner that harms Lebanon's reputation on the Arab and international scenes.
