Speaker Nabih Berri said that the parliament will begin holding sessions to compensate the ongoing standstill in the formation of the cabinet.
Berri told As Safir newspaper published Monday that there is a “certain step” that he will reveal on Monday, saying that he will be giving a grace period, until mid-week, to the continued efforts to solve the government deadlock.
“If the current contacts failed to achieve positive results, I will find my own solution,” the newspaper quoted him as saying.
Meanwhile, Berri invited the council’s bureau and the Parliament's Administrative and Justice Committee to hold a meeting at 11:00 am on Wednesday.
A source close to the speaker told al-Akhbar newspaper that he is currently seeking a legal way to hold a parliamentary session amid the absence of the cabinet.
Berri is attempting to hold a meeting to find a solution to the prisons issue, fearing that the chaos might expand, the sources said.
