Bahia Hariri from Gaza: Palestinian Unity is a Priority for its People

Member of the al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc Bahia Hariri confirmed on Tuesday that the Arab world is looking forward to see justice achieved for the Palestinian people, the state-run National News Agency said.

During her visit to the Gaza Strip on Monday in a show of solidarity, Hariri said: “The entire Arab world is eager to see justice achieved for the Palestinians. They look forward to see them regain their land and establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.”

The MP stressed that during the Israeli aggression on Gaza she maintained contacts with Hamas, the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian National Authority “to back them during the difficult days that had added to the long years of occupation, aggression and destruction.”

“We are proud of the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in confronting the aggression,” she said.

The deputy said that she chose to visit Gaza on the 10th of December because it “coincided with the proclamation of International Human Rights Day, which was issued on the same day when the rights of Palestinian people were violated. That announcement was a shame for its issuers.”

Hariri congratulated the Palestinian people for the U.N. General Assembly's decision that recognized Palestine a non-member observer state.

“Palestinian unity is a priority for the Palestinian people and all factions.”

Moreover, Hariri congratulated Hamas on the 25th anniversary since its inception.

She concluded her visit to Gaza and met with Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Hanieh, who welcomed her and the accompanying delegation.

On the Palestinian reconciliation, Hanieh said that the general atmosphere on the Palestinian arena during the conflict and after is very promising, “talks on the reconciliation have reached good levels and we believe that the first product of our efforts after the triumph of the resistance is to achieve reconciliation and restore national unity.”

In similar efforts to support the Palestinian people following the Israeli aggression on the territory, a delegation of March 14 alliance visited Gaza on November 27 in a show of solidarity.

An eight-day Israeli offensive against Gaza on November 14 killed more than 166 Palestinians and injured hundreds.
