Mustaqbal Insists on Cabinet's Resignation in Meeting with Jumblat

Al-Mustaqbal movement described on Friday Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat's initiative to resolve the country's political crisis as “positive,” reiterating demands that the cabinet steps down.

“The resignation of the cabinet is the solution to defuse the tension in the country,” head of al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc Fouad Saniora said in a statement.

Al-Mustaqbal delegation attended on Thursday night a dinner banquet at the residence of Jumblat in al-Mukhtara.

According to the statement, the delegation stressed during the meeting the importance of carrying out the upcoming 2013 parliamentary elections without any delay.

It pointed out that the March 14 coalition rejects attending an “unproductive” dialogue amid the lingering security threats.

The delegation included Saniora, MP Ahmed Fatfat and former Prime Minister Saad Hariri's advisers Nader al-Hariri and Mohammed Shatah.

The initiative suggests a return to dialogue and an end to involvement in the Syrian crisis.

A PSP delegation has been holding talks with major political figures to propose to them Jumblat's initiative to resolve the country's political crisis.

Its latest talks involved head of the Jamaa Islamiyya political bureau Azzam al-Ayyoubi, Lebanese Force leader Samir Geagea, Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel and it has so far met with President Michel Suleiman, Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Najib Miqati, Hizbullah deputy leader Sheikh Naim Qassem and Free Patriotic Movement chief MP Michel Aoun.

The assassination of Internal Security Forces Intelligence Branch chief Brig. Gen. Wissam al-Hasan on October 19 deepened the gap between the March 14 opposition and the March 8 alliance.

The opposition boycotted political activity with its foes after it blamed Miqati's government for covering up the crime, calling on it to step down, and said it would not sit at the same dialogue table with Hizbullah.
