Jumblat: No Lebanon without Unity and Army

Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat has called for the consolidation of the military institution, saying Lebanon would not exist without the unity of the nation and the army.

“There is no Lebanon without the unity of the country and the military institution,” Jumblat told a delegation headed by retired Maj. Gen. Shawki al-Masri that visited him in Mukhtara on Saturday.

“The army was at one time divided but the Taef accord laid down the Arab and national doctrine and identified the enemy as Israel rather than friendly Syria,” he said.

He added that the Taef agreement protected the resistance and “objective relations with Syria.”

Al-Masri, in his turn, said that Jumblat’s stances have at many times salvaged the country.
