A toddler was saved during a potentially deadly fall from a fourth-floor balcony at an Orlando hotel after landing in the arms of a British tourist, police said Thursday.
Helen Beard, 44, told police she was in the pool of the Econo Lodge Inn & Suites when she saw the small girl dangling from the balcony.
The tourist, who was visiting Florida from England, ran out of the pool as she watched baby Jah-Neah Myles fall and strike the third-floor railing before breaking the child's fall and catching her.
The one-year-old came down so hard that she slipped from Beard's arms and hit the ground. Beard then held her until paramedics arrived. Jah-Nea was taken to hospital, where medical staff said she had no injuries and was in good health.
Police said no criminal charges had been filed over the incident.
Helena Myles, the girl's mother, told police she had left Jah-Nea in the care of friends who said they did not notice the child leaving their room, according to the Orange County Sheriff's report of the incident.
Beard said the child had likely slipped through the railings lining the hotel walkway.
